What type of nonprofits should apply?
This training is designed for organizations that are looking to transform their brand and communications strategy to help scale their mission. The training is designed for small- and medium-sized nonprofits that do not mind rolling up their sleeves and getting dirty in order to grow their impact. You should plan to have your Executive Director/CEO and director-level team members attend this event.


Is there anything organizations need to do before attending?
Nothing is required. However, because this training relies heavily on your understanding of your nonprofit business model, it will be helpful if you have a recent strategic plan or operating plan in place. 


What if I apply and pay but cannot attend?
We understand that things pop-up. If you apply and pay, but cannot attend, we will hold a place for you at during our next cohort. Unfortunately, we will not refund tuition within 30 days of the start of the cohort.


Who from our organization needs to attend?
This training is built to help with professional development of strategy-level staff at your organization. It covers important high-level communications strategy work. We strongly encourage someone within your organization that has decision making power over communication strategy attend the event. This could be board members, executive director, communications director or others that make organizational decisions about your communications strategy.


How many people from our team are allowed to attend?
If there is only one person from your team that can attend that is great! Most organizations have the success when 2-3 people attend. Unfortunately, due to space and resources we ask that no more than 4 people attend from your organization.


What if we cannot afford the entire cost?
Since we work only with nonprofits, we understand that budgets can be tight. Apply and we will work with you to find a way to attend if you are right for the experience.

Marcus Cinque Harris (he/him)

Director of Projects

Marcus Cinque Harris is a professional creative & project manager with over a decade of experience engaging diverse communities and connecting people as an entrepreneurial artist & communications specialist. Marcus is a skilled strategist in managing teams, producing high-quality content, and facilitating campaigns. His projects creating impactful media by bridging art & activism have been acclaimed by AFROPUNK, NPR's Colorlines, and Complex magazine. An avid sports fan, coffee lover, and self-proclaimed "Afrofuturist", Marcus believes in working to build a better future by honoring the past.

Andrew has over 20 years experience in user interface and online marketing strategy for social entrepreneurs and nonprofits including most recently for Habitat for Humanity. Andrew has a Certificate of Fundraising Management from the Indiana University School of Philanthropy.

Val Neumark Mickela (she/they)

Director of Strategy & Education

Val is a brand strategist, educator, facilitator and coach with over 20 years experience in the nonprofit, for profit and education sectors. Through partnerships and collaborations, Val endeavors to co-design anti-racist, anti-oppressive spaces and tools that facilitate strategic-thinking, community building and sustainable growth. Val has a Bachelor's Degree in Visual Arts & Media from University of California San Diego and a Master's Degree in Education from Pepperdine University. They were also  a 2016 recipient of Pepperdine University's inaugural 40 under 40 Award. In their free time Val plays soccer and loves to read books with their daughter.
